Brains before Beauty, that's Rachel Newberry's motto, especially when her quiet, orderly life is interrupted by international rock star, Jaydon Hawke. And true to her word, brains take center stage when she discovers Hawke has a lot more on his mind than beautiful music. Targeted by a madman, Rachel puts her trust in Hawke, a move that may cost both their lives.

Cameron Tremaine, and Rachel Newberry have been friends for a long time, Cameron has a sassy mouth, but is intelligent, and witty, Rachel is very business like until one night Cameron talks Rachel to go to a rock concert. Rachel has never been to a rock concert. and Cameron has backstage passes to a meet and greet, Rachel really doesn't want to go backstage, and throws her backstage pass away. Cameron is not going to pass the chance up to meet the drummer of Jaden Hawke's band, so she develops a plan that will hopefully work and get them backstage, and talks Rachel into doing something that is outside her comfort zone. As they approach the security guard guarding the doorway to get backstage, Cameron pours on all her charm, and tells the security guard, Max Steele, that her friend standing on the side lost her pass, but would he let them through anyway. He grabs Cameron's pass and tells her the meet and greet was over two hours ago. She tries to charm him on her own, using all her girly charm, and as it turns out, he wasn't buying into it. This made Rachel very nervous, because the next plan that Cameron came up with would involve her participation. They both pulled up their blouses and flashed their breasts to the security guard, and he lets them backstage, as they are walking down the corridor with Cameron in front of Rachel, they both notice how eerily silent it is backstage. There are no groupies, no noise from anywhere, then suddenly Cameron points to something and passes out, leaving Rachel confused. When Rachel catches her friend and helps from getting hurt, she lays her on the floor gently, and then sees the reason for Cameron passing out. He is tall, and lean, with muscles but not overdone muscles, his shirt flying in the breeze as he walks.

Jayden Hawke is the lead singer in his band, and he is having difficulty with his zipper, when he sees Cameron and Rachel walking toward the entrance of the stage. He asks Rachel what happened to her, and surprising enough she is able to tell him, without too much embarrassment on her part, but then he asks for her assistance, as Cameron is still passed out on the floor. When she asks what it is, he tells her is zipper is stuck and would she mind helping him, she didn't want to deny someone help, but at the same time, she is after all an architect and not tailor, but she goes down on her knees and helps him anyway. She is frustrated that the zipper doesn't budge when she first tries to get it undone, and asks why he can't just button his shirt and the zipper would be covered, he laughs and knows immediately that she hasn't been to one of his concerts, so he tells her the shirt won't be on for long. He promises her he would pay her back after the concert for her trouble.

After the concert there are groupies that chase after him, but he doesn't want them, he has is sights set on Rachel, and turns the other girls away. When he sees Max, he asks where the she was, describing her in detail, Max tells him her and her friend left, but he heard them say that were going to a bikers bar after the concert. Jayden immediately tells Max that as soon as he is ready he is going to the bar to find her, Max said he couldn't go, Jayden replies he is going with or without him, Max gives in and says he will go him, but still says it is against his better judgement. Once Jayden walks into his dressing room he sees his manager, Greg Huntington, and Greg starts telling him about the architect he has heard about, who comes high recommendations, and Jayden tells him to set up a meeting. Jayden has decided he wants a house where the concert he is doing tonight is located, but Greg asks him if he is sure. Jayden assures his manager that is exactly what he wants. When Jayden finally changes his clothes and he and Max go to the bar, the both men are surprised to see Rachel and Cameron both dealing with bikers who have their hands all over them. Cameron seems like she can handle herself, though Rachel seems as though she is doing the same, Max tells Jayden to stay in the shadow of he darkness, but Jayden is soon at heels as they take care of the guys bothering the girls, and Jayden notices that Rachel is drunk, and orders the two young women out of the bar. As Jayden and Max are walking behind the girls, a girl that is dancing on the dance floor, sees Jayden and quickly calls his name, within minutes he is surrounded by women, and Rachel and Cameron get to Cameron's car, and go home.

Jayden is disappointed that he didn't get see Rachel again, but goes the offices, of Tremaine and Newberry, the next day. Little does he know that the architect his manager mentioned, was none other than Rachel from the concert. Rachel is an architect and Cameron is an interior decorator, and they have their business.

This book has a lot of twists and turns, it also has humor, which is always a good thing. This is the first book in a series, but it is a stand alone. I highly suggest that you read this book, you won't be disappointed, it's more than your average love story. Happy reading!

Leather Lace and RocknRoll SEALS Inc Book 1 edition by Mia Dymond Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I think this story needed a prolog, a little background of what the mission was for this team would have made more sense, actually more in depth on every scene would have made this story overall better and I'll tell you why...

1. Hawke is rock star, and I get that can help with this undercover mission of finding the terrorist however, last time I checked...SEALS don't do missions like this, more like CIA or some other federal agency. SEALS do very top secret missions that no one knows about bc their life and death missions so I can't truly believe them being SEALS, more like detectives or CIA. A little more info on the rock star/SEAL thing would have been more helpful from a character background perspective.

2. Rachel, I get she has a past with past relationships gone wrong and I like the cat and mouse game she plays with Hawke but wow i thought she was a little shallow and how many years did it take to get THAT successful in being an architect? I would have like to get a little peak into that success story. When she gets drugged at the gala I think a hospital scene would have been nice to get more of a "we need to investigate this" setting so the story of the mission gets more detailed.

3. Cameron is a spit fire and I liked her in the beginning but towards the end I really wanted to smack her bc when her and Rachel's lives are at high risk, they brush it off like no big deal bc they have a schedule to keep (I would like to know why an interior designer and an archetict are doing a fireman calander shoot bc it was never explained just put into the story) its as if they want to get killed by the terrorist which by the way WE NEVER HERE FROM HIM! I wanted to know what he planned to do while his "packages" were being intercepted and what he needed his lackeys to do about it which would explain the random drugging and shooting and rounded out his part of the story.

4. You can't get a real sense of time in this book, at first its days and a week but when certain events happen like when Hawke and Rachel fly to Sacramento it's done in a snap...huh? Hawkes house being burned, the only justification for that is the frame work was the only thing that saved that bc if the house was nearly finished I would been seriously questioning those construction workers!

5. Max, I like him to and he handles Cameron really well and her over the top sassy mouth, I think there was too much dialogue between the two and the main characters had very little so you can have that relationship build up better.

6. Where was the romantic relationship at in this book? Again I liked the cat and mouse game but the development of that relationship was not there. There was no build up really and they only had one actual love scene, which was really good, and then they fall head over heals in love after the very short action scene with the terrorist at the end and then they get married...probably have babies after the epilogue...happily ever after...WTH?

There were a lot of story hole that I think the author try to cover and couldn't. It felt like the SEAL mission was rushed and not explained well and not as much character development and I would have hoped for the first book of this series.

I'm on the fence with reading the 2nd book, maybe it answered the questions I had for this book. There were a lot of positive responce for the other books in the series so I might give them a second chance...
This was a truly awful book. The characters were not developed. the story line stopped and started seemingly at random. There were so many inconsistencies within both the characters and the action it was hard to follow. As one reviewer pointed out, supposedly the main character has been a Navy Seal under cover as a rock star for 20 years? That doesn't make any sense. The other main character is supposedly a workaholic architect and yet she spends all her time attending and planning charity events. Also, why is an architect planning and executing a photo shoot where she has to rub oil on perfect strangers? There is nothing likeable about any of these people either. I found myself checking the book to see how much further i had to go until the end. After finishing the book (not sure why i bothered)I felt like I had wasted two hours of my time.

Just say no, free is not worth it.
